Here are the best Open-air Cinemas for the Summer Season

Secret Cinema

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2017, the Secret Cinema creates 360-degree participatory worlds – showing everything from grass-roots films produced in derelict buildings, to high-scale production in the world’s most luxurious venues.

Luna Cinema

Head to the Luna Cinema at Hampton Court Palace, which is showing titles ranging from Jurassic Park (until August 18th) and La La Land (until July 21st). Hampton Court is one of Britain’s great royal palaces, dating back more than 500 years and just over an hour from central London via public transport.

Another popular outdoor Luna cinema is the Brockwell Lido, which is showing classic titles like The Graduate (until Jul 27th) and Jaws (until July 5th). The lido is home to one of London’s largest outdoor swimming pools and is in the lively neighbourhood of Herne Hill in south London.

The Lost Format Society, Croydon

Head to this funky rooftop cinema above a car park on the Centrale Shopping Centre in Croydon, south London. Open from May 18, it’s showing an exciting mix of classics, from ‘The Gold Rush’ to ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Top Gun’.

Somerset House

Come to one of London’s most beautiful squares and Neo-Classical landmarks, Somerset House, which will be showing a wide range of classic and modern films. from August 10-23. Watch the fantastic dark comedy Cruel Intentions, or one of the greatest American movies of the last 50 years, All the President’s Men.

The Backyard Cinema

Another experience not to miss, the Backyard Cinema started as a small project in the back garden of Dominic Davies, and is now one of London’s leading theatrical cinemas. This innovative cinema is perhaps best known for its Romeo and Juliet pop-up screenings, which are based on the adaptation by renowned Australian director Baz Luhrmann. It is in St Mary’s Church on York Street near Baker Street in the West End
